This page describes some of the web pages that we have designed, developed,
and are still maintaining for others.
We are focusing on the low-end, low-cost market: a site with a dozen pages,
pictures, a guest book, email, and so on. We may also get involved with
on-line reservations or sales, but if the job gets too big, we will refer
you to someone else.
We have written up a short report that described how to get started with
a web site, the framework, selection of an ISP and web hosting service,
what to look out for, and what it all could cost. If you are interested
in this report, please send an email to webdesign@vansluis.com
to request it.
Here are some of the web sites that we have created:
Our own personal
web pages. Here we share information with relatives and friends.
This is also the place where we experiment with different layouts, navigation,
and so on. Lots of pages.
Campbell Inn.
Our first web site. It has a main page, plus one page for
each aspect of the hotel. There is a dynamic "Promotions" page
that can be updated by the Sales Department, without knowledge of web
development. Visitors can fill out a comment form, which is e-mailed
to the hotel. Only visible to the hotel are a series of internal
use only pages (password protected), which allow the hotel personnel
to change options, look at the comment log, and see the web statistics.
Adlon Hotel.
The last web site we developed. The Adlon Hotel is not
open yet, so we expect a lot of activity on this site when we get closer
to the opening date. The pages will have the same features as the Campbell
Inn site, but with a different look and feel to it.
Bristol Hotel.
This hotel will be constructed during the second half of
1999 for a 2000 opening. Local businesses have heard about this hotel,
and this generates a lot of telephone inquiries. This new website will
answer many of the questions, and report the progress of the construction.
Carlyle Hotel.
Formerly known as the Executive Inn Campbell, this hotel
changed its name and started a website of it own.
Executive
Inns & Suites. Completely redesigned in June 1999.
Now we have separate pages for Hotel, Amenities, Directions, etc. for
all the hotels. Also, the logo's and most of the pictures have been
replaced with better quality ones. There are 5 hotels on this web site,
each with their own set of pages; and one main page linking all 5 hotels
together. Each hotel also has a comment page which can be filled out.
The comments are mailed to the central Sales Department.
Calabazas
Park BMX Trail. A volunteered web site. Calabazas park is
at the end of our block, and we are part of the volunteer organization
who is rebuilding the BMX trails in the park (we donate food and document
everything on the website). Check out this site for details. Lots of
pictures, and a guest book. It used to be hosted under www.vansluis.com,
but be ran out of space, so we moved it under www.calabazas.com
(the local bike shop).
South Lake
Tahoe Vacation Rentals. A web site about two rental cabins
in South Lake Tahoe. Originally is was
planned to have an on-line reservation system, but the owners like to
phone-screen potential guests before renting. Now, you can send a request
for reservation via the web, which will be answered before making the
reservation. It has an on-line availability calendar, showing visitors
when cabins are available before requesting a reservation.
Arthur's
Restaurant. A fine dining establishment in Santa Clara, CA.
This website includes a virtual tour with scrolling panoramic pictures.
Tri-City Community
Concert Association. A not-for-profit organization that brings
performers to the San Mateo Performing Arts Center. This site is currently
under construction will will be released to the general public in the
summer of 2000.
